Pocket Plazas

Weird intersections. San Francisco is full of them! Pocket Plazas make these spaces more intuitive and enjoyable with the help of natural amenities. Just look at Masonic & Geary for an example of a fully envisioned Pocket Plaza.

These amenities include flowers, planters, logs, and perhaps a bit of seating. It doesn’t take much to transform an overlooked stretch of concrete into a place that’s safe and inviting. Pocket Plazas work best when paired with local businesses, as they create a more welcoming space for the business, while the business helps to steward the plaza.

Do you have an idea for where a Pocket Plaza could be?

A Green Streets project

Green Streets is an emerging initiative to reimagine our public spaces with nature and neighbors. This growing network of experimental green spaces connects San Franciscans to their neighborhood villages, and to each other.
