Wiggle Plaza
You might’ve heard of The Wiggle, a 1-mile zig-zagging bicycle route from Market Street to Golden Gate Park that avoids SF’s hills, for the most part. But did you know twice a year there’s a block party that celebrates The Wiggle?
It’s called Wiggle Fest, and for the last couple of them (in October 2025 and April 2026) we’ve extended the block party up one more block of Steiner Street to create Wiggle Plaza, a pop-up town square featuring seating, greenery, live music, and more.
It’s prompted a conversation about what Wiggle Plaza could look like if it was more permanent. Stay tuned for an even better Wiggle Fest in the Fall!
Pop-up Town Squares are designed as pilot projects. This iterative approach helps create community buy-in and foster local stewardship. By creating opportunities to test, refine, and improve these new public spaces, we can experience a greener public realm, and a more connected community.
A Green Streets Project
Green Streets is an emerging initiative of the Civic Joy Fund that reimagines underutilized public spaces. This growing network of experimental green spaces connects San Franciscans to their neighborhood villages, and to each other.
